Twenty Dollars in Twenty Days Campaign

November 7, 2017

Teens in foster care are faced with many obstacles that the normal population are not faced with.  Unfortunately, a big obstacle that is faced by the female population is teen pregnancy.  For most youth who enter the foster care system, the lack of healthy relationships, a secure attachment and love creates the feeling of wanting to be important in at least one person’s life.  This one person that will give them unconditional love is that of their child.  Foster teen youth and have spoke and we have listened to their much needed concerns.  “Where is the parental support group?  Where are the trusted adults we can count on after leaving the system?”   That much needed support group has been formed, and we need the communities help for 20 days starting November 9, 2017 leading up to and including Giving Tuesday November 28, 2017 by helping to provide:

  • Needed baby items such as diapers, wipes, formula, baby food

  • Free weekly parenting and life skills classes, support groups and mentors

  • Transportation to and from our weekly programs

  • Gift Cards (grocery stores, restaurants, etc.)

Some Facts:

What happens to the more than 30,000 young adults transitioning out of the foster care system each year? For those that don’t get help, the statistics are heart-breaking:

  • 25% will become homeless after age 18.‡

  • 25% will not receive their high school diploma or GED, compared with only 7% of the general population.*

  • 50% will be unemployed.‡

  • 75% of girls will have been pregnant.‡

  • 80% of males will have been arrested.*

  • 60% of males will have been convicted of a crime.‡

  • For every young person that ages out, taxpayers and communities pay an average of $300,000 over that person’s lifetime in social costs.†

Please join our mission in helping to make the lives of a teen mom and their child a healthy and enjoyable journey without the need for further or future child welfare intervention.  We are asking that you to find it in your hearts to donate $20 for a teen and child in need.
